Angkasa-X, a prominent homegrown space tech company, made history today by successfully launching its inaugural satellite, A-SEANSAT-PG1 (PG1).
The launch took place at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia and was streamed live to four locations across Malaysia.
The event marked a significant milestone in Penang’s journey towards becoming a pioneering hub for space technology.
A historic moment for Penang
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was present at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in George Town, Penang, to witness the groundbreaking launch of A-SEANSAT-PG1.
Chow emphasized the tremendous importance of this achievement for the state, symbolizing Penang’s unwavering commitment to continuous growth and exploration in the realm of space technology.
The launch represents a significant step towards realizing the vision of Penang2030, which aims to transform the state into a family-focused, green, and smart state that inspires the nation.
Angkasa-X’s Contribution to Penang2030
Chief Minister Chow expressed his delight at Angkasa-X’s response to the Penang2030 initiative. Since taking office in 2018, Chow has called upon all Penangites to collaborate with the government and each other to elevate the state to greater heights.
The launch of A-SEANSAT-PG1 is a testament to this collaboration, as Angkasa-X has answered the call by leading the way in developing the space tech ecosystem.
The company’s Satellite-as-a-Service (SaaS) offering, which leverages technological expertise, aims to create the first constellation of Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) satellites along the equator.
This groundbreaking initiative is designed and based in Malaysia, showcasing the nation’s ability to be at the forefront of space technology development.
The successful launch of A-SEANSAT-PG1 would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders.
Chow commended the collective endeavour between Angkasa-X, USM, the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), state and federal government agencies, academia, and industry partners in realizing this visionary project.
The satellite will now undergo a waiting period of 9,500 seconds to determine if it has reached its designated orbit successfully.
